Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu is close to becoming the new head coach of Bibiani GoldStars. His name has come up strongly after the exit of Frimpong Manso.
The club confirmed on Monday, September 22, that they had parted ways with Manso. The decision was announced after a painful 2-0 home loss to Algerian side JS Kabylie in the CAF Champions League.
This defeat happened at the Accra Sports Stadium during the first leg of the preliminary round. The result has left GoldStars facing a very tough challenge in their debut campaign in Africa.
The loss also forced the club to make changes in its technical team. Officials believe a new coach can lift the confidence of the players ahead of the second leg.
Maxwell Konadu, 52, is now the favorite to take charge of the Miners. He is respected for his vast experience in both local and international football.
Konadu once guided Asante Kotoko to a Ghana Premier League title. His success at Kotoko remains one of the highlights of his coaching career.
He has also managed several other clubs in the Ghana Premier League. These include Legon Cities and Nsoatreman FC, where he gained more recognition.
Konadu has also worked with the Black Stars B team. He led the side to win the WAFU Cup of Nations in 2017, making him a trusted figure in Ghanaian football.
GoldStars are expected to make his appointment official soon. The announcement could come before the weekend.
If the deal goes through, Konadu will quickly take charge of the team. He may even be on the touchline in Algeria for the return leg against JS Kabylie.
The club also wants him to lead them in their upcoming Ghana Premier League matches. The new season is expected to be very competitive.
Frimpong Manso leaves with a good record despite the recent setback. He wrote his name in the club’s history books.
Manso helped GoldStars win their first Ghana Premier League title. He also guided them to victory in the GHALCA Top 4 competition.
The fans will not forget his contributions to the club. His legacy remains even as a new chapter begins.
The club now hopes Konadu can build on Manso’s work. His task will be to keep GoldStars strong both locally and in Africa.
