In an interview with Adom News reporter, Kwadwo Obeng Mireku, the student insisted that she is not a minor. She made it clear that she is 19 years old and not 13 as some groups have claimed.
The student even went ahead to give her date of birth to prove her point. According to her, she was born on July 21, 2006, and therefore has the right to defend herself against the false claims.
Her exact words were direct and simple. She said, “Just tell them I am 19 years old; I was born on July 21, 2006. I am not 13 years old.”
The controversy started after a disturbing video went viral on social media. The video showed the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics at KNUST SHS, Mr. Charles Akwasi Aidoo, in a compromising situation with the female student.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) acted swiftly after the video spread widely. On Monday, they released an official statement announcing that Mr. Aidoo had been removed from his post with immediate effect.
GES explained that the alleged behavior of the assistant headmaster was unacceptable. They described it as unprofessional, unethical, and a breach of the code of conduct expected from teachers.
Meanwhile, the case has attracted attention from the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection. The Ministry released a statement insisting that the girl in the viral video was only 13 years old and therefore a minor.
The Ministry called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the assistant headmaster. They argued that if the girl is indeed 13, then the case goes beyond misconduct and becomes a criminal matter.
This has created a public debate as two different claims about the student’s age continue to circulate. On one hand, the student herself is claiming she is 19 and has given her date of birth. On the other hand, the Ministry is saying she is 13, raising more confusion about the truth.
Many people are waiting to see the outcome of the investigations that are currently ongoing. The final decision will depend on whether official records confirm the age given by the student or the age stated by the Ministry.
The case has once again raised questions about teacher-student relationships in schools. It has also reminded the public about the need to protect students and ensure that teachers maintain professional boundaries.
For now, the issue remains under investigation and the public is keenly watching how the matter unfolds. Both GES and the Ministry are expected to release further updates as more facts are established.
