GES Interdicts Teacher Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct At Okadjakrom SHTS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken disciplinary action against a teacher accused of misconduct. The teacher, Mr. Richard Tibetor, works at Okadjakrom Senior High Technical School in the Oti Region.

GES confirmed the action in a statement released on Thursday, October 2. The Service explained that a video circulating on social media implicated the teacher in alleged sexual misconduct involving a female student.

The Service described the act as disturbing and unacceptable. It also called the behaviour unethical and a serious violation of the professional code of conduct for teachers.

As part of the action, Mr. Tibetor has been interdicted with immediate effect. He has also been barred from entering the school until investigations are completed.

GES explained that this step is necessary to ensure the safety and protection of students. It said the welfare of learners is always its highest priority.

The Service reassured parents, guardians, and the public that strict measures will be enforced. It said any teacher who breaks the rules and endangers students will face punishment.

According to the statement, GES will allow investigations to take their full course. If Mr. Tibetor is found guilty, he will face the law in line with the GES Code of Conduct.

The Service stressed that discipline and professionalism must always guide teachers. It added that misconduct of any kind will not be tolerated in schools across the country.

GES also highlighted its strong commitment to child protection. It promised to continue creating a safe environment for students in all schools.

The Service urged teachers to remain role models and act with integrity. It also advised parents and guardians to trust that the education system is working to protect children.

This incident has raised concerns about teacher-student relations in schools. Many education stakeholders have called for stricter monitoring to prevent future misconduct.

GES concluded its statement by reminding staff of their duty to protect students’ dignity. It assured the public that any breach of trust will be handled firmly and transparently.

The interdiction of Mr. Tibetor sends a strong signal to all teachers in Ghana. It shows that GES is serious about enforcing discipline and protecting the rights of students.
