The Member of Parliament for Afadjato South, Frank Afriyie, has called for the removal of police commanders and other security heads stationed in areas where illegal mining activities continue unceasing.
According to him, the persistent presence of these officials in galamsey-prone communities, despite ongoing illegal activities, raises serious concerns about their effectiveness and accountability.
He argued that security leaders who fail to curb illegal mining within their jurisdictions should not remain in office, stressing that enforcing the law is a basic responsibility of their roles.
“You have no duty being a police commander if you cannot carry out this basic responsibility of checking those involved in galamsey,” he stated.
He commended Otumfour Osei Tutu II for his efforts in dethroning chiefs who fail control illegal mining in their province.
