The Minister of Communications, Sam George, has given more time to a committee reviewing DSTv prices in Ghana. The committee now has one extra week to complete its work.
The group started its review on September 8, 2025. They were expected to finish earlier but will now submit their final report on September 29, 2025.
The National Communications Authority (NCA) released a statement on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. The NCA explained that the extra time will help the committee complete consultations.
According to the NCA, the Minister wants recommendations that fully address his concerns about DSTv pricing. The committee will also ensure the proposals are balanced and fair to all parties involved.
The committee has three main duties. The first is to help all parties build a common understanding of DSTv pricing in Ghana.
The second duty is to suggest measures that are fair and also make business sense. These measures should be accepted by both customers and service providers.
The third duty is to create a roadmap to stop the illegal use of DSTv decoders and services from Nigeria. This cross-border piracy has been a challenge for many years.
The NCA said the committee has made good progress since it started. However, more time is needed to bring all stakeholders to a common position.
The extension is seen as important for the success of the review. It will help the committee put together strong and realistic recommendations.
DSTv is a major pay-TV service in Ghana. Many households depend on it for sports, movies, and entertainment.
In recent years, many Ghanaians have complained that DSTv subscription fees are too high. Families are finding it harder to pay for the packages they enjoy.
The government is worried about the rising cost of DSTv services. At the same time, they want to make sure DSTv continues to operate in Ghana on fair business terms.
Another major issue is the illegal use of Nigerian DSTv decoders in Ghana. Many people buy these decoders because they are cheaper than the Ghana packages.
This situation has caused DSTv Ghana to lose money. It also makes it difficult for the company to operate fairly within the local market.
The extension of the review gives hope to many subscribers. They believe the outcome may lead to lower prices and better services in Ghana.
