Education Ministry To Donate Labone SHS More Than 3,000 Desks

The Ministry of Education has announced the successful delivery of more than 3,000 mono desks to Labone Senior High School in Accra. The delivery took place on Monday, November 24, to help address a serious furniture shortage at the school.

The shortage forced some newly admitted Form One students to sit on the bare floor during lessons. Other students had to rely on dining hall benches that were not designed for classroom use.

In its official statement issued on Monday, November 24, the Ministry said Labone SHS made a formal request for 3,282 mono desks. The request was submitted through the Ghana Education Service, which forwarded it for approval.

According to the Ministry, the Ghana Education Trust Fund carefully reviewed the request. The Fund approved the full quantity of desks and ensured allocation without delay.

The Ministry further indicated that the delivery would be completed by the end of Monday, November 24, 2025. The assurance was given to demonstrate the government’s commitment to swift intervention.

This supply of desks forms part of a larger national programme aimed at improving infrastructure in senior high schools. The programme focuses on addressing long-standing furniture shortages in affected schools.

Under this nationwide initiative, the Ministry of Education is procuring 200,000 mono desks for various senior high schools. These schools are part of the transition from the double-track system to the single-track system.

The Ministry believes the move will help reduce pressure on existing classroom facilities. It also hopes the desks will create a better learning atmosphere for students in different regions.

Officials from the Ministry said the goal is to close the furniture gap in a systematic and sustainable way. They stressed that this process will continue until every school receives the support it needs.

The Ministry emphasized that improving school infrastructure remains a top government priority. It also stated that education cannot progress without proper and comfortable learning tools.

To achieve this, the Ministry will keep working closely with the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Education Trust Fund. The collaboration is expected to strengthen the nationwide supply chain for educational materials.

The Ministry expressed gratitude to all partners who support its efforts to enhance teaching and learning. It also promised to maintain transparency as resources are distributed across the country.

Government officials noted that students deserve safe and supportive environments that encourage learning. They believe that good classroom furniture contributes greatly to effective academic performance.

The Ministry finally assured the public that similar interventions will continue in other schools facing the same challenges. It also encouraged school authorities to report their needs promptly for quicker responses.
