The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has urged Ghana’s technical team to choose the strongest players for the 2026 World Cup. He said the team must be fully ready for the big tournament.
He explained that Ghana should not go to the World Cup just to take part. He said the country must aim to compete well.
Ghana is preparing for its fifth appearance at the World Cup. The 2026 tournament will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Mr Adams said player selection must be based on merit. He said emotions should not influence decisions.
He explained that no good or talented player should be left out of the squad. He said this rule must apply to both local and foreign players.
Mr Adams said Ghana needs its best players at the World Cup. He said the country must use every available talent.
The minister warned against choosing players only because they play in the local league. He said performance and skill must be the main reasons for selection.
He added that the local league should not be used as the only measure of a player’s ability. He said the national team needs the best from everywhere.
Mr Adams spoke about the problem of local players leaving the country too early. He said this weakens the local league and its quality.
He explained that Ghana must keep top local players long enough to build a strong football base. He said early departures make the league less competitive.
The minister said a strong local league helps produce better national team players. He said clubs must work hard to keep their stars.
Mr Adams also said football needs a lot of money to grow. He said the government will continue to support the sport.
He explained that football brings pressure because many people follow it. He said the ministry will still do its best to improve the game.
Mr Adams said the government wants to support all sports fairly. He said no sport will be ignored.
He added that football is expensive to manage and develop. He said the government must plan carefully to meet the sport’s needs.
The minister promised to help improve the local league. He said better facilities and support will raise the level of play.
He said improving the league will help Ghana produce players who can shine internationally. He said this will benefit the national team too.
Mr Adams believes Ghana can perform well at the 2026 World Cup. He said the country only needs strong preparation.
The Black Stars will soon know their group-stage opponents. The official draw will take place on December 5.
