The Wa Municipality is in shock after the killing of a night security guard. The victim was Yahya Issa, also called Soja.
He was found dead on Saturday morning, September 20. His death has raised fear in the community.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Issah Nura Danwana, confirmed the news. He described the killing as very disturbing.
The MCE said residents had complained about security issues. He added that poor street lighting is one of the main problems.
So far, 378 street lights have been fixed, and 166 repaired. But about 400 more are still needed to cover the dark areas.
He said the Ministry of Energy is being contacted for help. Many dark spots have been lit, but more must be done.
The MCE also pointed out something worrying. The crime scene was only 400 meters from a police station and close to the new market.
The Assembly Member for Dobile, Zakaria Ibrahim, visited the place. He confirmed the victim worked as a watchman at the Wa Regional Market.
He said a knife was found lying on the victim’s chest. His face was badly smashed, and blood was running from his forehead.
From what they saw, the attackers may have used a block to hit his head. The Assembly Member described the killing as very shocking.
He said Wa has seen similar killings in the past. But this time, no body parts were removed from the victim.
Police carried the body to the Upper West Regional Hospital mortuary. An autopsy will be done while investigations continue.
Residents are very worried about this new case. Many fear it may mark the return of violent attacks in the area.
In 2022, private security guards were killed in a series of attacks. That incident shocked the whole municipality and caused heavy police patrols.
Now, the people fear the killings may start again. They are calling on government and security forces to protect them.
