The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) says senior high schools cannot take part in the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). The group says schools do not have enough money to prepare students for the competition.
In a letter dated October 3, 2025, CHASS explained the situation to Primetime Limited, organisers of the NSMQ. The letter was signed by the National Secretary, Mr. Baro Primus.
CHASS said government funds meant for school activities have not been released. Because of that, schools cannot organise or train students for the quiz.
The association said they regret the decision but have no other choice. They said schools cannot even attend the balloting due to lack of funds.
CHASS said they value the importance of the NSMQ. But they need the government’s support before they can take part.
They also assured the organisers that the decision is temporary. When the funds are released, schools will join the competition again.
CHASS apologised for any problems caused by the situation. They thanked Primetime Limited for understanding their challenge.
Many students and teachers are sad about the news. The NSMQ is one of Ghana’s most loved educational competitions.
Some people are asking the government to release the money quickly. They say this will help schools take part in the contest.
For now, the future of the 2025 NSMQ is not clear. Schools will wait until funds are available to return to the quiz.
