Police Catch 25-Year-Old Man After Violent Attack


The Police in the Walewale District of the North East Region have arrested a 25-year-old man named Rafai Tahiru. He was arrested for allegedly having a weapon and hurting a man during an attack in Walewale.

The police said the incident happened on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Tahiru and two other men, who have not yet been caught, accused the victim of stealing a mobile phone.

The suspects tied the victim’s hands and legs before putting him in a tricycle. They beat him many times with canes and later used a machete to cut his forehead and body.

People around the scene said the man cried for help as the beating continued. The attackers only stopped when some onlookers rushed in to rescue the victim.

The witnesses quickly took the injured man to the Walewale Government Hospital for treatment. The suspects ran away before the police arrived at the scene.

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, police officers found Rafai Tahiru hiding in Tampulungu, a suburb of Walewale. They arrested him and took him to the police station for questioning.

The police said Tahiru will soon appear in court. He will face charges for using a weapon and causing harm to another person.
