Four people, including two women, have been shot dead by unknown gunmen in the Upper East Region within the past 24 hours. The violent attacks have left residents in fear and heightened tensions in the already troubled area.
The latest shooting occurred around 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, along the Atuba road near Binduri. The victim, identified only as Azimbe, was reportedly ambushed and killed by gunmen while traveling on the road.
Reports suggest that the deceased was the son of the late Kusasi chief. His father was murdered in Asawasi, Kumasi, in July this year under similar mysterious circumstances.
The killings began on Friday morning when a woman was shot dead after stepping out to meet a colleague. Her death shocked residents, who feared the return of violence that had calmed in recent weeks.
Later that same evening, around 7 p.m., another attack was recorded at a drinking spot in Garu. A man identified as Salam was reportedly shot dead by two armed men on a motorbike.
At about 11 p.m. on Friday, a second woman was also killed in Binduri. Her death brought the total number of victims to four within just 24 hours.
The most recent attack on Saturday morning has reignited fear and tension among residents. Many people are now afraid to move freely, especially during the early and late hours of the day.
According to local sources, military personnel have arrested ten people in connection with the murder of the second woman in Binduri. Security forces believe the suspects may have links to ongoing conflicts in the area.
The killings have once again disturbed the fragile peace in Bawku and its surrounding communities. Violence and tension have slowed business activities and forced many people to stay indoors.
The Bawku municipality, once a vibrant and active area, is now struggling with fear and uncertainty. The situation has also affected education and transportation in the region.
Authorities have imposed a curfew in an attempt to restore calm. The curfew restricts movement at night and aims to prevent further attacks.
Security forces have also intensified patrols in Binduri, Garu, and other nearby areas. Their presence is meant to ensure safety and to prevent any revenge attacks.
Residents are calling for lasting peace and unity in the Upper East Region. Many believe that dialogue and reconciliation are the only ways to end the recurring violence.
