Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha has signed his first professional contract with the Premier League champions. The club did not confirm the length of his new deal but expressed delight at his progress.
Ngumoha is only 17 years old and already making headlines in English football. He scored a dramatic 100th-minute winner against Newcastle on his Premier League debut last month.
The young forward joined Liverpool in September 2024 after leaving Chelsea’s academy. He has since made five senior appearances for the Reds in different competitions.
In January, Ngumoha broke a long-standing club record in the FA Cup. He became the youngest player to start a competitive game for Liverpool at 16 years and 135 days.
His rapid development has continued on the European stage this season. He made his Champions League debut earlier this month when Liverpool defeated Atletico Madrid at Anfield.
Ngumoha is also making his mark on the international scene with England. He has represented the country at various junior levels and recently played for the under-19s on September 3.
At Chelsea, Ngumoha was considered the best player in his age group. However, he decided to leave because he believed Liverpool offered a clearer path to first-team football.
Reports suggest Chelsea tried hard to keep him at the club. The Blues offered assurances and significant future contracts, but the teenager still chose Anfield.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has shown great faith in Ngumoha since the start of pre-season. He included him in first-team matches and gave him opportunities to impress.
One highlight came in a pre-season game against Athletic Club in August. Playing from the left wing, Ngumoha scored after just two minutes and received a standing ovation when substituted.
His performances in Asia also caught attention during Liverpool’s summer tour. He registered an assist against AC Milan and scored against Yokohama F. Marinos, proving his attacking quality.
Ngumoha’s talent and confidence have made him one of the brightest young stars at Anfield. He is praised for his pace, creativity, and composure in front of goal.
Fans are excited about his future with the Premier League champions. Many believe he could become a key player for Liverpool in the years ahead.
Signing his first professional contract marks an important step in his journey. For Ngumoha, the focus is now on working hard and building a lasting career at Liverpool.
