A seven-year-old boy named Kwame was swept away by floodwaters at Abrepo Bronikrom in the Bantama Constituency. The sad event happened on Saturday, 27 September 2025.
Reports say Kwame was playing in the rain with two of his friends. While they were playing, one of their slippers floated into a gutter.
Kwame tried to go after the slipper that was drifting away. But the water was too strong and carried him with great force.
Eyewitnesses said the other children quickly raised an alarm. They even tried to rescue him, but the water was too powerful.
The community became very worried after the boy disappeared. A search party was quickly formed to find him.
People in the area moved around in groups searching the gutters and nearby areas. They were hoping to rescue Kwame or at least find him.
By Sunday morning, the search had still not been successful. The boy was not seen anywhere around the community.
Kojo Mensah, one of the residents, said the situation has made everyone afraid and sad. He explained that people have searched several times but found nothing.
He said the community even called a fetish priest for help. Rituals were performed to assist the search, but the boy was still not found.
According to Kojo, nothing like this has ever happened in their area before. He said the residents are terrified and do not know what else to do.
By Sunday, there was no official response from the police. No rescue team had arrived to support the local search.
Residents were left to continue the search on their own. Families and neighbors walked through the rain and mud looking for the child.
Some people believe the water carried him into a larger drain far away. Others think he might still be trapped in a covered part of the gutter.
The community has not given up hope, but fear is growing with each passing hour. The family of Kwame is in tears as they wait for any news.
The disappearance of the boy has shaken the entire town. Many parents are now warning their children not to play near gutters when it rains.
For now, the search continues with only the strength of the residents. Everyone is praying for a miracle to bring Kwame back safely.
