Daddy Lumba’s Family Files Injunction Against Announced Funeral Plans

The direct family of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has filed an injunction against the funeral arrangements announced for him. They claim the plans were made without their knowledge or approval.

The family is represented by Daddy Lumba’s first and legal wife, Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh, and their children. They said the arrangements were done without their consent and involvement.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 9, 2025, the family expressed disappointment after learning about the funeral through social media. They described the announcement as “deeply distressing” and disrespectful to the immediate family.

The statement accused Abusuapanyin Kofi Wusu and a so-called funeral committee of acting in their own interest. They fixed a funeral date for December 6, 2025, without consulting the legal wife or children of the deceased.

Mrs. Fosuh said the actions of the committee showed “a complete lack of respect” for her as the widow. She added that she is still mourning her husband and preparing to travel to Ghana for the funeral.

Since the passing of Daddy Lumba on July 26, 2025, in Accra, the family claims there has been a deliberate effort to exclude the legal wife from funeral discussions. They also revealed that the cause of death is still being investigated.

The family reminded the public that Daddy Lumba was legally married to Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh on December 23, 2004, in Bornheim, Germany. They said under German law, bigamy is strictly prohibited.

Citing Section 1306 of the German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch), the family stated that a person cannot marry another while still legally married. They stressed that any second marriage would therefore be considered invalid.

The family has taken legal steps to stop all funeral and burial activities until a proper discussion is held. They said a final decision will only be made after consensus is achieved among all parties.

“To all Daddy Lumba fans and music lovers around the world, we sincerely appreciate your love and patience,” the family stated. They urged everyone to disregard any unofficial funeral announcements.

They assured fans that a respectful and dignified farewell will be organized in due time. The family said it will honor Daddy Lumba’s legacy and the love he shared through his music.

Daddy Lumba, who died at age 60, was one of Ghana’s greatest highlife musicians. He released over 30 albums and produced timeless songs such as Aben Wo Ha, Yentie Obiaa, and Woho Kyere.

His music remains a treasure in Ghanaian homes and continues to inspire new generations of artistes. His legacy as a highlife icon lives on across Africa and beyond.
