Kofi Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation, has expressed his willingness to assist in the introduction of Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi into the Black Stars squad, but has emphasized that the final choice is up to the national team's technical staff.
Ahead of Ghana's final World Cup qualifying game against the Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium, talk has risen that the Crystal Palace attacker and Nottingham Forest winger are considering switching allegiances after having playing England.
Speaking on Asempa FM's Ultimate Sports Show, Adams stated, "Every Ghanaian who knows how to play has the ability to go to the World Cup if the coach chooses to do so. "It makes no difference if the player was on the team during the qualifiers or not.
Whether or not the player has previously played is irrelevant. "I've heard that other people want to talk about getting Baba Rahman back on the team, so the coach will decide whether to bring him back.
"They may have been looking elsewhere, but we will not discriminate based on whether or not a player competed in the qualifications.
Adams, who has previously helped recruit national team players, complimented Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi's talent but emphasized that choices are ultimately up to the coach.
"I've watched several players and believe they're good enough. Despite their talent, athletes such as Eddie Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi are ultimately selected by the technical team and coach
"That is my responsibility, and if I am asked to help, I will. I completed some background work on several of the guys that are now playing to help them make the national team.
It's not just people from my party; I spoke with them merely to get them on the national team, so anybody they bring in, I'll be there to help," he continued.
The Black Stars finished their qualifiers with a 1-0 victory over Comoros on Sunday at Accra Sports Stadium, with Mohammed Kudus scoring the game's only goal in the 47th minute.
Ghana's qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is their fifth involvement in the sport's pinnacle championship since their debut in 2006.
The four-time African champions are presently preparing for the competition, with the formal draw set for December 5, 2025, at the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Following their group-stage exit in Qatar, the Black Stars will look to move farther in next year's competition.
