MTN Ghana has announced a planned service disruption scheduled for early January as part of a nationwide systems upgrade. The telecom company says the temporary downtime is linked to preparations for new national VAT reforms.
In an official public notice, MTN Ghana explained that the maintenance will help align its billing platforms with the revised VAT tariff structure. The upgrade is necessary to ensure accurate pricing and compliance with the new tax policy.
The maintenance exercise is scheduled for Thursday, January 2, 2026. It will run for four hours, starting from 12:00 a.m. and ending at 4:00 a.m.
MTN Ghana stated that customers will not be able to purchase airtime or data bundles during this maintenance window. The company advised subscribers to plan ahead to avoid any inconvenience.
According to the telecom operator, the disruption will strictly affect recharge services and data bundle purchases. Customers who rely on late-night top-ups are therefore encouraged to buy in advance.
The company did not clearly state whether voice calls will be affected during the maintenance period. It also did not confirm if customers can continue using already active data bundles.
MTN Ghana further remained silent on whether Mobile Money services will be impacted during the four-hour downtime. This has left some customers uncertain about overnight transactions.
Despite the uncertainty, MTN reassured subscribers that the maintenance is essential. The company emphasized that the upgrade will improve long-term service efficiency and billing accuracy.
