Youth Group Demands Probe Into Allegations Against Dambai College Of Education Principal

A youth group in the Oti Region has called on state authorities to immediately investigate serious allegations made against Dr. Mrs. Benedicta Atiku, the Principal of Dambai College of Education. The group claims the allegations involve financial impropriety, abuse of office, and actions that undermine community trust.

The group, made up of concerned youth from the Nchumuru area, raised these concerns during a peaceful demonstration. They said their aim was to protect public resources and ensure transparency at the tertiary institution.

According to the youth, some college property was allegedly moved unlawfully to a private residence linked to the principal and her close associates. They argued that such actions, if proven, amount to a misuse of state-owned assets.

Abraham Amoah, the Youth President for Nchumuru, spoke on behalf of the group during the protest. He claimed the college only received a partial payment of GH₵50,000 for the furniture after public pressure forced a response.

The youth further alleged that the furniture transaction was not properly approved through established procedures. They insisted this raised serious concerns about accountability and financial management at the college.

Another major allegation centers on the opening of an unauthorized bank account in the name of the college. The youth claimed the account was opened by Dr. Atiku without approval from the relevant authorities.

They also alleged that the account has not been subjected to either internal or external audits. This situation, they said, creates doubts about how funds from the college’s sandwich programs are being handled.

The youth group accused the principal of favoritism and cronyism in appointments and recruitment processes. They claimed close associates and non-indigenes were favored over qualified local professionals.

According to the group, some qualified indigenes were removed from leadership positions without justification. They alleged that others were sidelined while outsiders benefited from key roles within the institution.

The youth also claimed that unconstitutional tenure extensions were granted to certain individuals. They said these extensions mainly favored non-indigenes and associates of the principal.

In addition to administrative issues, the youth accused Dr. Atiku of showing disrespect toward traditional authorities. They alleged she made remarks suggesting she would not work with natives of the area as Vice Principal.

The group argued that such comments weaken relationships between the college and its host communities. They said mutual respect is essential for effective leadership and institutional development.

Due to the seriousness of the allegations, the youth demanded that the principal be asked to step aside temporarily. They said this would allow for a fair and independent investigation without interference.

The youth initially attempted to present their petition directly to the management of the college. However, they claimed their efforts were unsuccessful at the school premises.

The petition was later submitted to the Oti Regional Coordinating Council and the Krachi Municipal Assembly. This step was taken to ensure the concerns reached the appropriate government authorities.

Presidential staffer Sulemana Mumuni received the petition on behalf of the Oti Regional Minister. He thanked the youth for their peaceful conduct and assured them that the matter would be forwarded for further action.

The youth expressed hope that authorities would act swiftly to address the allegations. They said a transparent investigation would help restore confidence in the leadership of Dambai College of Education.
