Ghanaian business mogul and media entrepreneur, Osei Kwame Despite, has strongly denied claims linking him to the ongoing legal and family disputes involving the widows of the late highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba. He made it clear that he is not supporting any side in the disagreement.
Despite explained that reports suggesting he is backing one of Daddy Lumba’s wives, Odo Broni, are false. He stressed that he has no interest in family conflicts and wants peace to prevail.
The billionaire businessman spoke after a viral audio recording circulated on social media. In the recording, he addressed the claims and clarified his true relationship with the family.
Despite stated that his bond with Akosua Serwaa, another widow of the late musician, is closer than the public has been made to believe. He dismissed suggestions that he favours Odo Broni over any other family member.
According to him, his actions have been misunderstood and misrepresented online. He insisted that his support has always been guided by friendship and compassion, not favoritism.
Explaining his involvement, Despite revealed that he donated GH₵100,000 to Daddy Lumba’s family shortly after hearing about his death. He described the donation as a personal gesture to honour a longtime friend.
He said Daddy Lumba was not just a public figure to him but a close companion. Supporting the family, he noted, was something he felt morally obligated to do.
Despite further explained that after Akosua Serwaa returned to Ghana, she personally contacted him. They then arranged a visit involving her, her children, and other family members.
The visit took place ahead of Daddy Lumba’s one-week memorial observance. During the meeting, Despite said he provided financial help to support their daily needs.
He emphasized that his assistance was purely humanitarian. He said it was meant to ease the burden on the family during a difficult time.
Despite also revealed that he continued to support the family even though he could not attend the one-week memorial in person. He said he made additional financial contributions from afar.
In addition to the monetary support, he disclosed that he provided Akosua Serwaa with a car. He explained that this was to help her manage transportation and family responsibilities.
Addressing speculation about his presence at Daddy Lumba’s funeral, Despite clarified his intentions. He said his attendance was only to honour the memory of a close friend.
Despite stressed that attending the funeral did not mean he was taking sides. He insisted that he has remained neutral throughout the family disagreements.
He added that he has no role in the legal issues or tensions involving Daddy Lumba’s widows. He described the dispute as a private family matter.
Despite made it clear that he does not benefit from the conflict in any way. He said he prefers harmony and understanding among the family members.
The business icon urged the public to stop spreading false information. He said misinformation only deepens divisions and creates unnecessary tension.
He also appealed to those involved to focus on unity and respect. According to him, Daddy Lumba’s legacy deserves peace, not controversy.
Despite concluded by reaffirming his respect for the late musician. He said Daddy Lumba’s contributions to Ghanaian music should be remembered with dignity.
He added that his only concern is to honour his friend’s memory properly. He hopes the family will resolve their differences amicably and move forward together.
