Asante Kotoko are set to begin their 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign with high hopes and determination. The team’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has assured fans that the players are fully motivated and ready for the challenge ahead.
Kotoko, who are the reigning FA Cup champions, will play their first match in the competition on Sunday, September 21. They will face Nigerian side Kwara United in the first leg of the preliminary round at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kickoff at 15:00 GMT.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program, Sarfo Duku expressed confidence in the squad’s preparation under head coach Karim Zito. He highlighted that the team’s recent achievements are a clear sign that Kotoko are ready for continental football.
According to him, the players are drawing strength from their successes under Karim Zito. He explained that the coach has guided the club to four trophies, and there is still more potential within the team to achieve even greater things.
“The players are hungry and eager to perform because they understand the importance of this tournament,” Duku said. He added that the squad has been watching videos of past African matches to learn from them and to prepare for the tough competition ahead.
Duku stressed that the players are aware of the challenges of playing on the continental stage. However, their spirit remains high, and they are determined to give their best performance in front of the home crowd.
He also made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to rally behind the Porcupine Warriors. In his view, Kotoko’s performance does not only represent the club but also brings pride to the entire country.
“This is Asante Kotoko, and when the club succeeds, Ghana succeeds as well,” he said. He therefore encouraged fans to come to the stadium in large numbers to cheer on the players and show their full support.
Looking ahead, Kotoko will not only rely on their current form but also on the experience of their technical team. Coach Karim Zito believes that the team has not yet reached its best level and that more improvement will be seen as the competition progresses.
After the first leg in Accra, Kotoko will travel to Abuja for the second leg. The return fixture is scheduled for Sunday, September 28, at the M.K.O Abiola International Stadium in Nigeria.
For Kotoko, the CAF Confederation Cup is not just another competition but a chance to prove their strength on the African stage. The players, coaches, and management are all focused on making Ghana proud through hard work and determination.
