A disturbing case of domestic violence has shocked residents of Wonkayaw, a village in the Dambai Township of Krachi East Municipality in the Oti Region. A man identified as Emmanuel Addai allegedly bit off part of his wife’s ear after a quarrel turned violent.
The victim, Madam Cecilia Fordjour, is a 46-year-old woman who spoke about her ordeal to the Ghana News Agency. She explained that the incident happened shortly after she had prepared food for the family.
According to her, her husband had returned from a funeral nearby when the trouble began. She said he suddenly ordered her to leave the house, just as she was about to serve him a meal.
The situation quickly escalated, and the disagreement turned physical. Madam Fordjour claimed that her husband pounced on her and bit off part of her ear during the assault.
She recalled being rushed to a private health facility called KOPAH Clinic with the detached ear in hand. However, medical staff told her the ear could not be reattached because of the delay before arriving at the hospital.
The injury has left her permanently disfigured and emotionally distressed. The shocking attack has also raised concerns about the rising trend of domestic abuse in rural communities.
Following the incident, the matter was reported to the Krachi East Police Command. Officers confirmed that both the victim and her husband appeared at the station with separate complaints.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Al-hassan Abdul-Razak, the Divisional Crime Officer of Dambai Command, explained the details to the media. He said Madam Fordjour lodged the first complaint, while her husband later came to claim that he was also assaulted.
According to the police officer, both parties were issued medical forms for treatment and documentation. Investigations will begin once they are discharged from hospital and able to provide further statements.
ASP Abdul-Razak noted that the police will analyze medical records and collect additional evidence. The goal is to establish the facts and determine who should be held responsible for the incident.
This case has generated strong reactions from members of the Wonkayaw community. Many residents expressed shock and disappointment, urging couples to seek peaceful solutions to conflicts.
Community leaders have also been encouraged to raise awareness about the dangers of domestic abuse. Authorities stress that violence only destroys families and leaves long-lasting scars.
The investigation remains ongoing under the supervision of the Krachi East Police Command. Further updates will be shared with the public as new findings emerge.
